The Big Apple in Boston
0 Comments Published by admin July 2nd, 2008 in Looks Good Enough to Eat, Out and About, Uncategorized. No, I’m not referring to a Yankees at Fenway scenario. This is about a much dorkier reason to be excited. On Saturday we went to Boston, the city of my college years, to meet up with my brother, up from South Carolina for a wedding. We first spotted it while in the observatory on the 50th floor of the Prudential Center…
…the new large Apple Store on Boylston St…(create your own choir-like sound effect here)
…complete with an industrial glass staircase in the center of the 3-floor store. Even though we love Macs, the Apple Store wasn’t the center-piece of our day’s itinerary.
It was Brown Sugar Cafe in the Fenway. I introduced my parents to Thai food via Brown Sugar on one of their visits in Boston. It has to be one of the best Thai restaurants in the country. No kidding. Pictured above is my choice, the Basil Pad Thai. Spicy!

0 Comments Published by admin June 27th, 2008 in Beauty in the Everyday, Ideas and Inspiration. The plan was to visit Dad and camp in Vermont this weekend. Since we have the rare chance to see my brother (a resident of S.C.) in Boston on Saturday and also because the weather doesn’t look favorable for tenting, Vermont will have to wait. Here’s a pic from a recent end-of-May weekend at Dad’s anyway.
I really love the way the colors pop against the concrete and wood in this one. The paper ‘Happy 30th Bob’ banner might still be up today. It was so cheerful we couldn’t bring ourselves to take it down.
I’m excited to announce that my shop is moving to www.meghanburch.etsy.com and my blog to www.meghanburch.com. To celebrate and make the move a little easier, Kaybu is hosting a moving special! Through July 4, 2008 recieve FREE SHIPPING on all orders sent within the US!
I’m in the process of packing my virtual boxes, so you can still find my screen-printed and handmade items for women, children and the home at www.kaybu.etsy.com.
I’ve just put these new linen coasters in the front window of my Etsy Shop. I love the combination of the electric lemon yellow with linen. They would do nicely to show off your famous lemonade or a killer mojito!
Well, after all the planning and anticipation, Massachusetts Art-All State 2008 at Worcester Art Museum was a smashing success. I’m really honored to have been a part of it twice now- once as an 11th grade participant, and now 11 years later as a Mentor/ Artist. My facilitating partner, David, and I had a great group of 18 students who, for being in a whirlwind of meeting new people, and facing the challenge of creating a whole installation with a very limited set of materials in only a matter of hours, did an unbelievable job.
Following the event’s theme of ”Limits/No Limits” all 8 pairs of Mentor/Artists were instructed to select two materials for their group to work with. David and I chose wire clothing hangers and coffee filters. Another surprise material was selected for us, and even we didn’t know what it would be until the event. If you can’t tell by the photos, it was long strips of blue foam.
We pushed our group to push their limits and the limits of the materials. There is so much I could go into detail about the incredible, speedy process our group embarked upon, but I know these images say enough for now.
Though, I do have two more words for my amazing group of students: Keep reaching!
Check out this happy new Nancy Tote in my shop. I’ve since retired this image, so this bag is, and forever will be a one-of-a-kind.

This weekend we were at Dad’s, so I’ll have some new VT photos to share soon. Abbey pointed out that I was included in Bloesem’s The Weekly Gallery by way of Poppytalk Handmade yesterday. Thanks to Irene of Bloesem and thanks, Abbey!
I’ve been garlanding together some fabric circles. This morning they looked particularly beautiful hanging against a cotton tea towel with the light breaking into the studio. The shadows the garland casts are so lovely, it might be hard to remove them from their current, effortless drape on the wire hanger. I’ll be sure to assemble them into a work that casts lovely shadows in other spaces besides my own.

Occasionally is enough. This first one is of two objects from my inspiration board. It turned out to be a sunny day, so I thought some yellow was in order. Need more yellow in your life? Check out this great vintage flour canister over at How Now Design’s Etsy shop…
