San Diego Day 1- Art and Food

Friday, April 11th, 2008

Yesterday Bob and I returned from a much needed and appreciated vacation in San Diego. We stayed with friends at UCSD (thanks so much Zach and Janel!) and filled our days with all the great things the San Diego area has to offer.

Erwin-Redl Matrix-Ii 2 Web-1

On the first day we walked around La Jolla to visit the Museum of Contemporary Art’s La Jolla location. The image above, from the museum’s web site, is of my favorite piece there. Erwin Redl’s MATRIX II is an amazing installation that invites the viewer interact with light and space. Vistors can walk in/through the 3-d grid of LED lights which is now in the museum’s collection. We ate a great lunch on Prospect St. at The Living Room and the flavor highlight of dinner at The Pizza Port was their very own California Honey Ale and Port’s Porter. I have to say, the San Diego area knows how to brew a good beer! More to come over the next couple of days.

08.01.07Babybagpost

Your input is needed! I want to design a great bag for you to stylishly and comfortably tote all the stuff you need for your little one. I’d love to know:
1) What do/did you love about your favorite (I know you have a collection of them!) diaper bag.
2) What would you change about your bag.
3) Anything else you’d want me to know about your dream diaper bag.

As I’m not yet a mom, but want to create a design that is family and stuff friendly, its time to hear from you. If, like me, you’re not a parent, but someone who just caries around lots of stuff, give me your input too! All of my products thus far have been created out of what I love, need and want in design. I’m so excited to learn from your experience and combine it with my love to create!

Can you guess? I’ll give you a hint. You throw it on the wall to see if it’s done. I just love the texture of this image.

Well, here it is: my ornament collection for 2007. Those that are for my swap group are in the mail as I write! They’re made with hand screen-printed felt, commercially printed cotton, tread, and some feature a disk of birch bark. I’ve also included them in my Etsy shop. Still need to pick up a little something for a teacher, coworker, or that person who needs their day lifted? Take a closer look at one of these pinwheel ornaments by clicking here.

Carolynclutchpoppy

There’s still a few days left for great gifts to arrive (to the contiguous 48 states) in time for Christmas! Have you met my Carolyn Clutch? I based this one off of a similar one I made for myself this summer. I think the silver bubbles screenprint really takes on an animal print quality when it’s on this brown linen, no bubbles were harmed in the making of this bag. To see more of the Carolyn Clutch by click here or find other great gifts in my Etsy shop.

07.12.01Ornament3

As my parents’ Christmas tree can attest, I’ve been making ornaments since I figured out how to stick things together. The 2007 Holiday Ornament Swap has me churning out some of these screen printed felt and cotton pinwheels this year. I can’t wait to send them out to my swap group! We just decorated our tree so next post I’ll share some of the beloved ornaments given to me over the years.

I hope you had a great Thanksgiving. Sorry I haven’t posted in a while. I’ve been a mini factory lately churning out new gift-perfect goodies (including this Vineyard/Turquoise Mosaic Headband) and my ornaments for the Holiday Ornament Swap hosted by freshlyblended and cake and pie. I’m happy to have found the computer amongst the fabric and bits of thread in every room of the studio. Our whole apartment is now referred to as “the studio.”

I’ve also spent a good deal of my internet time drooling over all the great handmade items on the web for Christmas. If you haven’t stopped by my Etsy shop lately, here’s a peek at what’s new. Soon to post also: a fab. brown and silver clutch and a dreamy yellow pillow.

New in My Shop

07.09.19MosaicbeltThe inspiration for these belts came from the beautiful green/white striped gross grain ribbon that backs it. I wear one of these belts almost daily and it’s great because it doesn’t create lump under my un-tucked shirts like thick leather belts do. I wear it with my dressier pants and jeans. Take a closer look at this belt and it’s great ribbon backing in my Etsy shop.

Gift Certificates are now available in my Etsy shop. Get a head start on you-know-what. I can’t bear to name it, considering it’s just September, but I know I don’t like scrambling for gifts last minute. I can send one directly to your recipient and shipping is free in the United States. Can’t beat that.

Here’s a sneak peek at my next screen in-progress. For those of you not familiar with the process of screen-printing, here’s a link to wikipedia’s screen-printing page. I plan to print fabric and paper with this one so keep your eye out for new products! In the meantime, check out my Etsy shop.
