Skiing was not in the weather cards this weekend, so my brother, husband and I went to see Tara Donovan’s work at the ICA in Boston yesterday. I’ve been a big fan ever since Abbey pointed her work out to me a couple of years ago. She transforms simple, common materials and objects in to works that get even non-arty or museum-y people looking closely. The show closes this Sunday, but if you’re in the area of Boston before Jan 4th, check it out!

Monday, December 29th, 2008Thank You, And The Winner Is…
Saturday, September 13th, 2008THANK YOU to everyone who visited my table and supported my work at TWIST fair last week. A big thanks also to everyone who joined my infrequent email list for a chance to win a $30 Gift Certificate to my Etsy shop. My mother-in-law drew the winning entry, and I’m excited to announce it’s Leslie from Hadley, MA!!
I’ll continue to post new things in my Etsy shop over the coming weeks, so check back again soon.
The Big Apple in Boston
Wednesday, July 2nd, 2008No, I’m not referring to a Yankees at Fenway scenario. This is about a much dorkier reason to be excited. On Saturday we went to Boston, the city of my college years, to meet up with my brother, up from South Carolina for a wedding. We first spotted it while in the observatory on the 50th floor of the Prudential Center…
…the new large Apple Store on Boylston St…(create your own choir-like sound effect here)
…complete with an industrial glass staircase in the center of the 3-floor store. Even though we love Macs, the Apple Store wasn’t the center-piece of our day’s itinerary.
It was Brown Sugar Cafe in the Fenway. I introduced my parents to Thai food via Brown Sugar on one of their visits in Boston. It has to be one of the best Thai restaurants in the country. No kidding. Pictured above is my choice, the Basil Pad Thai. Spicy!
All-State 08!
Monday, June 2nd, 2008Well, after all the planning and anticipation, Massachusetts Art-All State 2008 at Worcester Art Museum was a smashing success. I’m really honored to have been a part of it twice now- once as an 11th grade participant, and now 11 years later as a Mentor/ Artist. My facilitating partner, David, and I had a great group of 18 students who, for being in a whirlwind of meeting new people, and facing the challenge of creating a whole installation with a very limited set of materials in only a matter of hours, did an unbelievable job.
Following the event’s theme of ”Limits/No Limits” all 8 pairs of Mentor/Artists were instructed to select two materials for their group to work with. David and I chose wire clothing hangers and coffee filters. Another surprise material was selected for us, and even we didn’t know what it would be until the event. If you can’t tell by the photos, it was long strips of blue foam.
We pushed our group to push their limits and the limits of the materials. There is so much I could go into detail about the incredible, speedy process our group embarked upon, but I know these images say enough for now.
Though, I do have two more words for my amazing group of students: Keep reaching!
