Day 3 of our trip to San Diego was a beautiful day of walking around and visiting the museums and gardens at Balboa Park
Bob’s fly new hat served very well in the California sun.
This is a Clown Fig. I wish these would grow in New England.
Me in the Japanese Friendship Garden. Had some great buckwheat soba noodle/ tofu soup at The Tea Pavillion.
Next post: Day 4: Downtown’s Design District and Little Italy

Still being on California time makes for productive evenings but rough mornings, so I’ll use this opportunity to share a couple of images from day two of the San Diego trip: Anza Borrego Desert State Reserve.
It felt good to be out in the sun for a change, but it proved to be a little too much at once so early in the warm season. Minimal sunburn, but major headache from dehydration and forgetting the sunglasses. The sun is very bright in southern Cali.
Desert wear is not for the faint for fashion. Sun protection required.

Shout out of thanks to Funky Delights for pointing out the inclusion of my pillow in Freshly Blended’s “Etsy spring love” post of 2/28. I love to see how others’ work can be matched up with my own. Thanks, Nicole, for including me in a great little collection! If you love this pillow, it’s still available in my Etsy shop.
Each year, about 150 Massachusetts high school juniors are selected to come together for “two days of exploration and collaborative art making with 16 professional artists and mentors” for Art All-State at the Worcester Art Museum. I am so excited to share that both Bob and I were selected to serve as Artist Mentors for this year’s Art All-State in May. I went to All-State as a high school student, and this may sound hokey, but it was one of the greatest weekends of my life. It was the first time I collaborated in the creative process with peers who shared a deep interest in art and making things. This image is of a huge tape mural created by world-renowned tape artist Michael Townsend on the side of the museum during Art All-State 2007. Look for my post about this year’s All- State in June.
Oh, February, you cold month sitting between two other cold months! You come so quickly after the month of goal setting and good intentions! Your presence pulls away from the home improvement and organizational tasks that January so easily used to steal my attention. You are so sneaky and cleaver, wooing me with your red-and-heart-filled holiday, your promise of skiing and cozy nights. But don’t worry February, I’m going to be the one taking advantage of you and your extra day this year, especially since there’s no snow to ski on. See, I’ve already been sewing up something new. More to come, you’ll see.

Hey, check out this great interview with my friend Abbey posted on sfgirlbybay today. If you don’t know about Abbey Hendrickson’s delightful artwork or her addictive blog, Aesthetic Outburst, this is a fine introduction. And thanks, Abbey for mentioning my shop as a favorite!

Being that I’m a sucker for good chocolate, It was hard to walk by the the kitchen at work the other day and not sample the beautiful treats that were inside these plastic trays. Fortunately/unfortunately I was rewarded for the indulgence by uncovering these golden treasures.

I’m not huge on doing lavish Christmas decorating in my own home. Just give me a tree and a minimalist nativity. I do, however, love making ornaments and filling a tree with small treasures. I think this angel is my favorites of all time. I didn’t make her, I’ll have to have mom remind me where she comes from. She has bendy limbs, so every year growing up I would shape her into a new pose that she would graciously hold the entire holiday season. Now I love it because it’s old and makes me chuckle about my how much of a girls’ girl I was- loving everything ballet, pink, kittens and. . .
. . .unicorns. And, bless my mother, she started ornament collections for my brother and I long ago. When I got married she gave me a box filled with the ornaments that had been given me over the years, and on my first Christmas with my husband we had a good start to our own collection. Do you have any favorite ornaments?
