Skiing was not in the weather cards this weekend, so my brother, husband and I went to see Tara Donovan’s work at the ICA in Boston yesterday. I’ve been a big fan ever since Abbey pointed her work out to me a couple of years ago. She transforms simple, common materials and objects in to  works that get even non-arty or museum-y people looking closely. The show closes this Sunday, but if you’re in the area of Boston before Jan 4th, check it out!

The reason for so few (read: zero) posts these days is that my husband and I have been in a long (about 2 month) process of trying to close on our first house. In the meantime, our apartment has been rented so we had to pack up our home and studios to take temporary residence with my parents.  Now my brother has been in town for Christmas so we are getting to enjoying an extended togethery time like we haven’t had since we were small.  These shots are from around my parents house during last week snow storm.

I Heart New York - Cork and Map Necklace!  I made a couple of cork and map necklaces for myself over a year ago and now they’ve made their way into my shop. Its a fun piece to make and wear and doesn’t feel cold on my neck in the winter like my metal and stone necklaces do. Check out this one here available in my Etsy shop!

Thank You, And The Winner Is…

THANK YOU to everyone who visited my table and supported my work at TWIST fair last week.  A big thanks also to everyone who joined my infrequent email list for a chance to win a $30 Gift Certificate to my Etsy shop.  My mother-in-law drew the winning entry, and I’m excited to announce it’s Leslie from Hadley, MA!!

I’ll continue to post new things in my Etsy shop over the coming weeks, so check back again soon.

New in My Shop

A new addition to my family of comfortable, beautiful and useful stuff. Beach Stones Quilted Coasters in my classic ivory on moss, but now backed with a great vintage brown and ivory cotton.

My vintage fabrics come from tablecloths, clothing and other textiles discovered in antique shops and grandmothers’ fabric baskets.  My grandmother’s house, for instance, is chock full of well-cared-for supplies yet to crafted into lovely things. Unfortunately, she’s had a lot of water in the basement this summer, which had needed constant tending to and cleaning until getting an expensive permanent pump this week. Fortunately, now though, my family and I and won’t have to constantly tend to the shop vac. In the clean-up process I scored some great trims and discovered an almost complete quilt in fantastic condition. Cold weather is coming, so perhaps I should finish it and let it serve its intended purpose!

Beautiful Disaster…

Though it reminds me of work by one of my favorite artists, Tara Donovan can’t take any credit for this everyday-stuff-turned-art. It’s by a malfunctioning automatic dispenser which spat an entire roll of papertowel most carefully on a gray tiled bathroom floor.

Stoked for Stacks

Abbey should be excited about this post because it includes more photos from woodpiles in Vermont.

metallic birches

These amazing birch logs at my Father-in-law’s (also named Bob) have turned all metallic and pealing beautiful. You might remember my other photos of his woodpile which have made their way around my blog block.

This photo taken by BobDad (that’s easier to type) is of his parents’ wood pile. It’s a good illustration of their overall well-stocked and organized home.

And while we’re on the subject of stacks, this is a vertical collection of floral patterned mattresses back at BobDad’s.
