Each year, about 150 Massachusetts high school juniors are selected to come together for “two days of exploration and collaborative art making with 16 professional artists and mentors” for Art All-State at the Worcester Art Museum. I am so excited to share that both Bob and I were selected to serve as Artist Mentors for this year’s Art All-State in May. I went to All-State as a high school student, and this may sound hokey, but it was one of the greatest weekends of my life. It was the first time I collaborated in the creative process with peers who shared a deep interest in art and making things. This image is of a huge tape mural created by world-renowned tape artist Michael Townsend on the side of the museum during Art All-State 2007. Look for my post about this year’s All- State in June.

Unconditional Love Eternal

08.02.14Valentine

Wondering why the “Saint” is now often dropped from the name of today’s holiday, I searched the net to learn more about St. Valentine’s day. Though no source could pinpoint a single origin of the holiday, I did learn that there were 3 christian martyrs by the name of Valentine. Isn’t it interesting that Cupid, the Roman god of erotic love, is the symbol for a holiday named after Christian martyrs?

I made this banner to remind me why I know I am loved eternally:
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” That’s from the Bible’s book of John, 3rd chapter, 16th verse.

If you’re not familiar with the Bible, there is another book in it called 1 John that is based on a letter the apostle John wrote. Take a look at the 3rd chapter and 16th verse of this book:

“This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers.” Yesterday I realized the that the 3rd chapter, 16th verse of each book has the same amazing point!

Lastly, I want to share a favorite verse that was included in my wedding ceremony:
This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. (1John 4:10)

08.02.13Hexcoasters
I recently added this set of 6 Hexagon Coasters to my Etsy shop. They’re the last product on which you’ll be able to get my bubbles print since I just retired it to make room in my collection for some great new patterns. Get your (extremely) limited edition (only two sets made!) linen and felt coasters while you can!

I Heart February

2008.02.04Box

Oh, February, you cold month sitting between two other cold months! You come so quickly after the month of goal setting and good intentions! Your presence pulls away from the home improvement and organizational tasks that January so easily used to steal my attention. You are so sneaky and cleaver, wooing me with your red-and-heart-filled holiday, your promise of skiing and cozy nights. But don’t worry February, I’m going to be the one taking advantage of you and your extra day this year, especially since there’s no snow to ski on. See, I’ve already been sewing up something new. More to come, you’ll see.

08.01.15.Dreamy-Scales-Pill

Well, sort of. It has been in my shop for a little while now, but I didn’t post about it yet. I love how the cool silver ink works with the warm, creamy yellow canvas in this Dreamy Scales Pillow. See a close up of the hand-stitched detail here. It’s been fun to experiment with metallic ink. My husband mixed silver with other colors to a nice subtle effect in some astronaut shirts he printed and gave out for Christmas.
