07.12.21Sale-1

So that I can spend Christmas enjoying family rather than working on my shop, I’ve posted my post-Christmas and Boxing Day (hello, Canada!) sales now. The folks over at Poppytalk Handmade (where I have a virtual street market table through the first week in January) have inspired me to learn more about the international holiday that is Boxing Day. After much web browsing, I’m still not quite sure what it’s about (read more here) but am excited to celebrate handmade by offering great deals to those who will be shopping for it. You can also see more of my sale items by clicking here.

Wallpaper for your desktop!

008

Well, I guess wall paper is in again. I don’t know about you, but I don’t think this is one trend I’m going to dive into. The wall paper in my dwelling is atrocious so if I were to change, it wouldn’t be for more wall paper! But what of patterns, beautiful patterns? Banish them forever? The thought brings pain. Solution: computer desktop wall paper! Farmidable, an awesome blog created by two illustrators: my husband Bob and our friend Zach, features FREE downloadable original desktop patterns. They (and occasionally I) design patterns so your computer can look great. Check out more of Farmidable’s desktop wallpapers here.

Well, here it is: my ornament collection for 2007. Those that are for my swap group are in the mail as I write! They’re made with hand screen-printed felt, commercially printed cotton, tread, and some feature a disk of birch bark. I’ve also included them in my Etsy shop. Still need to pick up a little something for a teacher, coworker, or that person who needs their day lifted? Take a closer look at one of these pinwheel ornaments by clicking here.

Carolynclutchpoppy

There’s still a few days left for great gifts to arrive (to the contiguous 48 states) in time for Christmas! Have you met my Carolyn Clutch? I based this one off of a similar one I made for myself this summer. I think the silver bubbles screenprint really takes on an animal print quality when it’s on this brown linen, no bubbles were harmed in the making of this bag. To see more of the Carolyn Clutch by click here or find other great gifts in my Etsy shop.

07.12.03.Angel

I’m not huge on doing lavish Christmas decorating in my own home. Just give me a tree and a minimalist nativity. I do, however, love making ornaments and filling a tree with small treasures. I think this angel is my favorites of all time. I didn’t make her, I’ll have to have mom remind me where she comes from. She has bendy limbs, so every year growing up I would shape her into a new pose that she would graciously hold the entire holiday season. Now I love it because it’s old and makes me chuckle about my how much of a girls’ girl I was- loving everything ballet, pink, kittens and. . .

. . .unicorns. And, bless my mother, she started ornament collections for my brother and I long ago. When I got married she gave me a box filled with the ornaments that had been given me over the years, and on my first Christmas with my husband we had a good start to our own collection. Do you have any favorite ornaments?

07.12.01Ornament2

07.12.01Ornament3

As my parents’ Christmas tree can attest, I’ve been making ornaments since I figured out how to stick things together. The 2007 Holiday Ornament Swap has me churning out some of these screen printed felt and cotton pinwheels this year. I can’t wait to send them out to my swap group! We just decorated our tree so next post I’ll share some of the beloved ornaments given to me over the years.
