A Few of My Favorite Things #3
Published September 26th, 2007 in My Favorite Things.
The few fuzzy memories I have of my grandmother all have to do with the kitchen: helping her grind the meat, asking for a piece of ribbon candy, watching out the window for my cousin coming off the bus at lunchtime. I haven’t tried making any of the recipes from my Grandma’s recipe* box yet, but I have documented some of them on the scanner. Her soda bread recipe is the one my dad, his brothers and sister make for get-togethers. It isn’t in this box, but I hope I’ll soon know it by heart just like they do. To me, this box represents what my family and good friends have taught me about cooking and getting together. At the end of a hard week, serving or or being served a handmade meal is fuel that keeps me going.*Did you know I had it? Let me know if you need it back, Dad!

Thanks.. Thanks alot.. The people from the Food Network were her last week to look at the receipes in the box after I told them how they would makes a great TV show. They offered me a kitchen to make them down in Pawleys Island SC, a 6 bedroom house on the beach, limo at my beck and call, and $$$$$$$ and more $$$$$$. But, alas the box was gone, they didn’t see the receipes, I didn’t get the TV show, the kitchen, house, limo or $$$$$$$ and $$$$$$$. If you think you can make this up to me, your mistaken little lady. I am taking you out of my will and giving all to the birds……
Well, when my check from the Food Network comes in, I’ll buy your house in SC but your truck will work just fine. It’s easier to park in the dirt driveways of the best BBQ spots. As for the will, I’m not holding my breath for any millions. The birds can chew up all your old papers and things. That will save me from having to get a paper shredder.
